Mariners Pick Up 18-10 Home Win Over Ramapo Wednesday Night

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 20, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's lacrosse team battled past visiting non-conference opponent Ramapo College, 18-10, on Wednesday night at Brooks Stadium. With the win, the Mariners remain undefeated at 5-0, while the Roadrunners suffer their first loss and drop to 3-1. 

Freshman Jessie Wohner (Norfolk, Va.) led all players with eight points on seven goals and one assist, while senior Jessica Reilly (Sayville, N.Y.) had five points on two goals and three helpers. Both senior Meredith Willard (Portland, Maine) and junior Grace McHugh (Sturbridge, Mass.) recorded three goals and one assist each, and senior Maura Malone (Yorktown, Va.) scored twice. Junior Angela Parker (Bowie, Md.) and freshman Maddie Schmidt (Mechanicsville, Va.) also got on the scoresheet with one assist apiece. 

Reilly gobbled up a team-high five draw controls and three different Mariners tied for the game-high with four groundballs each – Reilly, Malone and senior goalie Hannah Gizzi (Finksburg, Md.). Schmidt led all players in the game with three caused turnovers. Gizzi made six saves on the night to record the victory. 

For Ramapo, senior Gabi Davidson led the way with six goals and classmate Beth McGraw found the back of the net twice. Fellow senior Molly Warner secured a game-high six draw controls, while freshman goalie Alexandra Kerwin tied for the game-high with four groundballs. Kerwin made nine saves over the 60 minutes. 

The Mariners return to action next Tuesday, March 26, with a home game against arch-rival Coast Guard. Opening draw is slated for 5:30 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Women's Lacrosse Schedule Page
