KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Nov. 7, 2019) – The Skyline Conference announced the Preseason Coaches Poll for women's basketball on Wednesday and USMMA was picked by the league's head coaches to finish the season first. The Mariners are coming off their best season in program history in 2018-19, when they went 22-4 including a 16-2 record in conference action and earned their first Skyline Championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Merchant Marine garnered 93 points and four first-place votes in the poll, while last year's runner-up Mount St. Mary finished with 89 points and also had four first-place votes. Newcomer to the conference, Manhattanville, earned 86 points and three first-place votes.
Rounding out the poll were Old Westbury in fourth (74 points), St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in fifth (64), Purchase in sixth (51), Farmingdale State in seventh (49), Mount St. Vincent in eighth (41), St. Joseph's-Long Island in ninth (27), Yeshiva in 10th (17) and Sarah Lawrence in 11th (16).

The full 2019-20 USMMA Women's Basketball schedule is available on www.USMMASports.com. The Mariners will play 24 regular season games – 13 at home and 11 on the road. They'll face the other 10 Skyline Conference opponents in home-and-home series for a total of 20 games, and will square off against four non-conference opponents.
The season opens next Wed., Nov. 13, at home against non-conference foe City College of New York. After nine days without a game, the Mariners welcome in Skyline opponent Sarah Lawrence on Sat., Nov. 23, before closing out the month on Tue., Nov. 26 at Purchase.
Merchant Marine alternates locations for its four games in the month of December – the first three are conference contests at Manhattanville (Tue., Dec. 3), home against Mount St. Mary (Thur., Dec. 5) and away at Yeshiva (Wed., Dec. 11), and the final game before winter break is Sat., Dec. 14 at home against non-conference Keystone College.
The first game of the 2019 portion of the schedule is a home Skyline tilt against St. Joseph's-Long Island on Sat., Jan. 4. The following Wed., Jan. 8, the Mariners will welcome in arch-rival Coast Guard looking for a point in the overall standings of the 2019-20 Superintendents' Trophy against the Bears.
Four of the next five games are on the road, starting with a trip to Old Westbury on Sat., Jan. 11, followed by a home game against Farmingdale State on Tue., Jan. 14, then a season-long three-game road-trip at Mount St. Vincent (Thur., Jan. 16), at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (Sat., Jan. 18) and at St. Joseph's-Long Island (Wed., Jan. 22).
The Mariners return home for three-straight games – Fri., Jan. 24 against non-conference Hunter, Sun., Jan. 26 against Yeshiva, and Tue., Jan. 28 against Old Westbury. January closes out with a road game at Farmingdale State on Thurs., Jan. 30.
The final month of the season begins on Sat., Feb. 1, with a home game against Mount St. Vincent, followed by another contest in the friendly confines of the Liebertz Gymnasium against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Wed., Feb. 5.
The last four games alternate home-and-away once again, as USMMA hits the road at Sarah Lawrence on Sat., Feb. 8, then welcomes in Manhattanville on Tue., Feb. 11, before traveling to Newburgh, N.Y., on Sat., Feb. 15, at Mount St. Mary, and closing out the regular season on Tue., Feb. 18, home against Purchase.
The top six teams at the end of the regular season will qualify for the Skyline Championship Tournament, with the first two seeds receiving byes into the semifinals. The first round matchups of the #6 seed at the #3 seed and the #5 seed at the #4 seed will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The winners will move on to face the top two seeds in the semis on Thursday, Feb. 27. The 2019 Skyline Championship Game is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 29, at the highest remaining seed in the tournament.
