Hunter Named Atlantic Region Rookie Of The Year; Lands On Second Team All-Region

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (March 18, 2019) – U.S. Merchant Marine Academy freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) was named the Atlantic Region Rookie of the Year and was selected to the Second Team All-Region, the website announced last week. The accolades come after Hunter's phenomenal freshman season at Kings Point. 

Hunter helped USMMA win its first Skyline Conference Championship and make its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. She was selected as the Skyline Rookie of the Year and to the All-Skyline First Team. The freshman averaged a double-double on the season with a team-best 16.7 points per game and 12.2 rebounds per game. 

She finished the season ranking seventh in the country with 19 double-doubles, 16th in the nation (fourth in Skyline) with 12.2 rebounds per game, third in the Skyline with a .512 shooting percentage and fifth in the conference with 16.7 points per game. 

Throughout the season Hunter was named the ECAC Rookie of the Month for December, was a six-time Skyline Rookie of the Week, and earned weekly accolades once as the following - National Team of the Week, Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association (MBWA) DII-DIII Player of the Week, MBWA DII-DIII Honorable Mention, Skyline Player of the Week and the Skyline weekly honor roll.
