KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 13, 2018) – The USMMA women's basketball team sailed past visiting Skyline opponent St. Joseph's of Long Island, 64-39, on Tuesday evening at the Liebertz Gymnasium. With the win, the Mariners have now set a new program record for victories in a season, as they improve to 16-7 (12-5 Skyline), while the Golden Eagles fall to 8-15 (5-11 Skyline).
The win also secures a first-round home game in the Skyline Tournament for Merchant Marine next Tuesday, Feb. 20. The opponent for that game will be determined when the regular season concludes this Saturday. It will be the first home playoff game for the Mariners since 2006 and just the third ever at the Liebertz Gym for the program.

USMMA raced out to a 15-2 lead after one quarter of action and never looked back. SJC was led by senior Andrea Iavarone, who tied Hightower for the game-high with 17 points, while also bringing down a team-best 12 rebounds for a double-double. Junior N'Dea Maddox added nine points and freshman Lindsey McKenna had six in the losing effort.
Up next, the Mariners will battle Farmingdale State on the road in the regular season-finale this Saturday, Feb. 17 with the #3 seed in the Skyline Tournament on the line. Tipoff against the Rams is scheduled for 12-noon at FSC's Walter A. Lynch Sports Center Gymnasium.
