Mariners Fall To Mount St. Vincent, 71-61, On Senior Day

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Feb. 3, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's basketball team dropped a home Skyline Conference contest to Mount St. Vincent, 71-61, at the Liebertz Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Mariners fall to 14-6 (10-4 Skyline), while the Dolphins improve to 9-9 (7-7 Skyline) with the victory. 

USMMA celebrated two events today – Senior Day for its two graduating seniors Gabrielle Salazar (Memphis, Tenn.) and Tichina Carmon (Greenville, N.C.) and the annual Think Pink game. A Senior Day Ceremony photo gallery can be viewed at this link

On the court, the Mariners had three players score in double-digits with sophomore Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) leading the way with 17 to go along with eight rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks. Carmon just missed out on a double-double with 11 points and a game-high nine rebounds and sophomore Taylor Hightower (White Plains, Md.) contributed 10 points. 

Sophomore Shelby Peters (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) added nine points and seven boards with a game-high four blocks and Salazar chipped in with seven points, seven rebounds and four assists. Off the bench, freshman Kiana Vega (El Paso, Texas) posted seven points. 

For the Dolphins, who led in the game from the 3:10 mark of the second quarter on until the final buzzer, junior Kelly Oliver led all players in the game with 24 points, while senior Kristen Merrell added 17. Classmate Kelly Nola had a solid afternoon with 10 points, seven rebounds, a game-high five steals and a team-best three assists. Freshman Aria Rheams contributed eight points a team-high eight boards.
