BRONX, N.Y. (Dec. 14, 2017) – The USMMA women's basketball team traveled up to the College of Mount St. Vincent on Thursday night for a Skyline Conference contest and left the Dolphins' Peter Jay Sharp Center with a 69-62 victory. The win improves the Mariners' record to 6-2 (4-1 Skyline), while CMSV falls to 4-3 (3-3 Skyline).
Senior Tichina Carmon (Greenville, N.C.) led four Merchant Marine players in double-digit scoring with 16 points, while also bringing down eight rebounds. Sophomore Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) added 15 points as well as eight boards and four assists and freshman Kiana Vega (El Paso, Texas) also contributed 15 points off the bench. Senior Gabrielle Salazar (Memphis, Tenn.) had 11 points, four assists and a game-high five steals.
Sophomore Shelby Peters (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) led all players on the night with 15 rebounds and tied for the game-high with four blocks. She also added four points towards the victory. Sophomore Taylor Hightower (White Plains, Md.) chipped in with eight points and six rebounds in the win.
For Mount St. Vincent, senior Kelly Nola recorded a game-high 18 points and five assists with a team-best nine rebounds, while junior Kelly Oliver added 11 points and seven boards and three steals.
The Mariners are back in action on Saturday afternoon, when they travel to Jamaica, N.Y. to face non-conference opponent York College. Tipoff against the Cardinals is scheduled for 12-noon at the York College Gym. Live stats for the contest will be available at this link.
