SCRANTON, Pa. (Dec. 13, 2015) – The USMMA women's basketball team lost to Scranton, 76-42, on Sunday in a Landmark Conference showdown at the Royals' John Long Center. In defeat, the Mariners' record falls to 4-4 (0-4 Landmark), while Scranton improves to 7-0 (2-0 Landmark).
Freshman Miller Torrance (Concord, N.H.) had a career day with a game-high 18 points off the bench, with all of her points coming from 6-of-8 shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Sophomore Myckenzie Toler (Prunedale, Calif.) added five points, junior Kelsey Hofmann (Adel, Iowa) dished out four assists and sophomore Jenna Wetherington (Cocoa Beach, Fla.) brought down a team-high five rebounds, while classmate Tichina Carmon (Greenville, N.C.) recorded four blocked shots.
The Royals had four starters score in double-figures while the fifth recorded nine points. Junior Alexix Roman led the way with 12 points, classmate Sarah Payonk and freshman Bridgette Mann both added 11 apiece and senior Noelle Alicea contributed 10 points. Payonk brought down a game-best six boards.
The Mariners are back in action this coming Wednesday night, Dec. 16, when they travel up to Westchester County to take on the College of New Rochelle. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Blue Angels' Wellness Center. Live stats of the game are available by clicking here.
