Women’s Basketball Loses Home Landmark Game To Elizabethtown

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2015) – The USMMA women's basketball team dropped its home Landmark Conference contest to visiting Elizabethtown, 77-36, on Monday afternoon at O'Hara Hall. The loss drops the Mariners to 2-13 (0-10 Landmark) on the season, while the Blue Jays improve to 11-4 (5-4 Landmark).

Freshmen Tichina Carmon (Greenville, N.C.) and Gabrielle Salazar (Memphis, Tenn.) both led Merchant Marine with seven points apiece, while sophomores Julie Mall (Littlestown, Pa.) and Rachel Wehlburg (Herndon, Va.) both brought down a team-high six rebounds.

Elizabethtown shot an impressive 50.8-percent from the field (32-for-63) and scored more than half of their points in the paint (40 total). The Blue Jays also spread the ball around quite well, as all but two of the 16 players that dressed for the game registered at least one point. Junior Rachel Forjan led all players in the game with 13 points and sophomore Emily Martin contributed 12 points. The E-Town bench scored a total of 46 points, led by freshman Emma Hoesman, who had eight. Freshman Morgan Thomas pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.

The Mariners have the rest of the week to get ready for their next game, which is on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m. against Landmark foe Catholic at O'Hara Hall.
