WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan. 3, 2015) – The USMMA women's basketball team lost on the road to Landmark Conference opponent Catholic, 66-49, on Saturday at the Cardinals' DuFour Athletic Center. The defeat drops the Mariners to 2-7 (0-5 Landmark) on the season, while CUA improves to 8-4 (2-1 Landmark).
Freshman Tichina Carmon (Greenville, N.C.) led all players in the game with 18 points, which was the highest tally of her young career. She also brought down a team-best seven rebounds for Merchant Marine. Sophomore Julie Mall (Littlestown, Pa.) added six points, while freshmen Gabrielle Salazar (Memphis, Tenn.) and Myckenzie Toler (Prunedale, Calif.) both contributed five points apiece from the bench.
Two players scored in double-figures for Catholic as junior Jayni Webster and sophomore Melissa Errico both registered 13 points. Juniors Josephine Migash and Kristen Walheim both had 10 rebounds apiece to lead all players.
Merchant Marine returns to action this coming Tuesday night, Jan. 6, when the Mariners welcome in Landmark foe Moravian. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium in O'Hara Hall. The contest is the first game of a doubleheader with the USMMA men's team, which is slated to take on local non-conference opponent, NYU, at 7:30.
