    U.S. Merchant Marine Academy freshmen runners Will Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) and Sayra Raya (Wasco, Calif.) were named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Cross Country DIII Metro Rookies of the Month for October, the league announced on Wednesday. The accolades come after the duo’s performances in the Mariners’ four meets last month, including helping both teams recapture the Skyline Conference Championships.

    For the second straight year, the USMMA cross country teams are Skyline Conference Champions! The Mariners won the conference championship races this afternoon, hosted by Mount St. Mary at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome, as the women compiled a microscopic team score of 24 points, and the men tallied 29 points to lead the field.

    The Skyline Conference announced its weekly award winners for men’s and women’s cross country, men’s soccer and women’s volleyball on Monday afternoon and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had a total of eight student-athletes honored for their performances during the week of Oct. 14-20.
  • Mariner Men Compete At Rowan Saturday, Suffer Narrow Loss To Coast Guard Head-To-Head

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team took part in the Inter-Regional Border Battle on Saturday hosted by Rowan University at the Gloucester County Dream Park 8K Course. The Mariners came in 21st place with 578 points at the event and were narrowly defeated by arch-rival Coast Guard, which came in 19th with 548 points.

    U.S. Merchant Marine Academy sophomore runner Aodhan Meyer (South Kingston, R.I.) was selected by the Skyline Conference as its Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week after his showing at the St. Lawrence Hoffmann Invite/Pre-Atlantic Regional Meet this past Saturday. This is the second-straight week that Meyer has been honored by the Skyline, as he landed on the weekly honor roll last week.

The praise comes after the duo helped lead the Mariners to a fourth-place team finish at the NYIT Invitational this past Saturday.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team came in fourth place at the New York Tech Invitational on an interesting Saturday morning on the campus of NYIT. After being given only 30-minutes notice that the men’s race and women’s race were going to flip-flop start times, the Mariner men started off what was supposed to be an 8K race and had all five of their scorers finish in the top-30.

    This morning the Skyline Conference released the preseason coaches poll for men’s and women’s cross country and both Merchant Marine squads were picked by the league’s head coaches as the favorites to repeat as conference champions. The men earned 117 points in the poll with eight first place votes, while the women grabbed 113 points and also garnered eight first place votes.

    The United States Merchant Marine Academy held its 2019 Awards Convocation on Friday morning at the Ackerman Auditorium as part of Kings Point Weekend festivities, which culminates with commencement exercises on Saturday. Four major athletic award winners were announced during the ceremony – the Male and Female Athletes of the Year as well as the two Coaches of the Year – along with a number of other athletic awards and honors.

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team captured its second Skyline Championship in the past three years on Thursday at the conference championship meet hosted by Mount St. Mary College at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome up in Ulster County. The Mariners won the meet with an incredible total of 30 points, as their top-five all finished better than 10th place and their next two were inside 12th place.

    On Saturday, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team competed in and won the 11th Annual MSMC Knight Invitational up at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome in Ulster County. The Mariners finished with a combined team score of 71 points, nearly half of the next-best team, hosts Mount St. Mary, who finished with 135 points. Fellow Skyline opponent SUNY Maritime rounded out the top-three with 154 points.

    The USMMA men’s cross country team came in first place on Sunday at the Queensborough Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park. The Mariners totaled 42 points at the meet, with the first five finishers all placing in the top-15. In second was SUNY Maritime (112 points), followed by Monroe College (122), Purchase (148) and Hunter (156) rounding out the top-five.

    The USMMA men’s cross country team ran at the NYIT Invitational this morning and placed fourth out of a total of eight teams at the event, first among DIII schools and ahead of three Division II teams. The Mariners tallied 112 points, behind Division I Fordham (37), hosts NYIT (51) and Pace University (62).

  • Men’s Cross Country Places Second At Purchase Invite

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s cross country team participated in the Purchase College Invitational on Saturday morning up in Westchester County. The Mariners came in second place out of 12 teams in the field with 49 points, however they lost their head-to-head matchup against Coast Guard, 17-45.
