Mariner Men Compete At Rowan Saturday, Suffer Narrow Loss To Coast Guard Head-To-Head

LOGAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Oct. 19, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team took part in the Inter-Regional Border Battle on Saturday hosted by Rowan University at the Gloucester County Dream Park 8K Course. The Mariners came in 21st place with 578 points at the event and were narrowly defeated by arch-rival Coast Guard, which came in 19th with 548 points.

Sophomore Aodhan Meyer (South Kingston, R.I.) placed 83rd in 25:58.7 to lead USMMA and classmate Tyler Pittman (Albuquerque, N.M.) came in 130th with a time of 26:35.8. Fellow sophomore Brennan Shute (Annapolis, Md.) was right behind Pittman in 131st in 26:36.5.

Freshman Will Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) and senior Michael Dobkowski (Merrick, N.Y.) rounded out the top-five for the Mariners in 153rd (26:54.2) and 157th (27:00.2), respectively.

Up next, the Mariners will take part in the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan University next Saturday, Oct. 19, at Gloucester County Dream Park in Logan Township, N.J. The men's 8K race is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. At the event, USMMA is scheduled to take on arch-rival Coast Guard head-to-head for a point in the 2019-20 Superintendents' Trophy standings.
