Men’s Cross Country Places Third At ECAC Championship Meet

MILTON, N.Y. (Nov. 3, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team came in third place at the ECAC Championship Meet on Saturday up at the Hudson Valley Sportsdome. The Mariners scored a total of 101 points, behind first place Vassar (36 points) and second place NYU (93 points). 

Freshman Lucas Jordan (Littleton, Colo.) was the first Mariner to cross the finish line of the 8K race, placing eighth with a time of 31:03.5. Two other USMMA runners finished in the top-25 – junior Michael Dobkowski (Merrick, N.Y.) was 18th in 31:49.7 and freshman Aodhan Meyer (South Kingston, R.I.) placed 21st with a time of 32:08.4. 

Rounding out the top-five for the Mariners were freshmen Nicholas Arima (Honolulu, Hawaii) and Tyler Pittman (Albuquerque, N.M.) in 29th (32:46.6) and 32nd (33:03.7) places, respectively. 

Freshmen twin brothers Anthony and Andrew Suarez (East Meadow, N.Y.) were the final two Mariners to cross, coming in 48th (34:06.8) and 54th (34:27.1), respectively.

Up next, the Mariners will run in the NCAA Atlantic Regional Meet hosted by Rowan University at Gloucester Co. DREAM Park in Logan Township, N.J., next Saturday, Nov. 10. The men's 8K race will begin at noon.
