PURCHASE, N.Y. (Sept. 8, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's cross country team participated in the Purchase College Invitational on Saturday morning up in Westchester County. The Mariners came in second place out of 12 teams in the field with 49 points, however they lost their head-to-head matchup against Coast Guard, 17-45.
All seven USMMA runners that scored finished in the top-15 of the race, with freshman Lucas Jordan (Littleton, Colo.) leading the way with a fourth-place finish in the 8K race with a time of 27:49.3. Junior Michael Dobkowski (Merrick, N.Y.) came in ninth in 28:14.9, before five-straight Mariners placed 11th through 15th to round out the scoring - freshman Nicholas Arima (Honolulu, Hawaii) (11th, 28:37.4), classmate Aodhan Meyer (South Kingston, R.I.) (12th, 28:46.3), senior John Robertson (Pfafftown, N.C.) (13th, 28:48.1), sophomore Patrick Porch (Halstead, Kan.) (14th, 28:51.2) and freshman Tyler Pittman (Albuquerque, N.M.) (15th, 28:54.8).
Coast Guard won the invite with 18 points, while SUNY Maritime (third with 103 points), Purchase (fourth with 122 points) and Mount St. Mary (fifth with 147 points) rounded out the top-five. So the Mariners were the highest finishing Skyline team at the meet.
