KINGS POINT, N.Y. (July 2, 2019) – The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced the individual Scholar All-America honors for the 2018-19 season on Monday night and two members of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's swim & dive team earned Honorable Mention Scholar All-American recognition – recent graduates Thomas Curry '19 (Los Angeles, Calif.) and Christopher Kahl '19 (Solomons, Md.). This is the second-straight season that the pair has received this distinguished praise.
To earn Honorable Mention Scholar All-American accolades, Curry and Kahl garnered individual GPAs of 3.50 or higher while also achieving an NCAA "B-Cut" standard or competing at a regional or zone qualifying meet.
Curry qualified for and competed in the NCAA Diving Regionals after attaining qualifying marks numerous times throughout the season. Kahl earned a B-Cut at the 2019 Metropolitan Championship Meet when he touched second in the 200 backstroke preliminaries with a time of 1:48.28.
"This is a very well-deserved honor for Thomas and Christopher," commented head coach Sean Tedesco. "They have led us both in the classroom and in the pool."

"I am proud of our program for achieving Team Academic All-American honors yet again," added Tedesco. "They worked hard over the course of year to accomplish this goal."
