NCAAs Day 3 Recap: Mariners Earn Two More All-American Certs, As Monahan Places Fifth & Tolloti 12th In 100 Breast

GREENSBORO, N.C. (March 22, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had two more All-American performances on Friday, as junior Nolan Monahan (Stafford, Va.) and freshman Patrick Tolloti (Dover, Ohio) earned the distinction in the 100 breaststroke event. The Mariners still sit in 14th place of the NCAA Championship Meet, finishing the third day of the event with 51 points. 

Monahan swam in the Championship Finals heat of the 100 breast and came in fifth place with a time of 54.71, earning 14 points towards the team score and his third All-American certificate of the week. 

Tolloti took part in the Consolation Finals and came in fourth place in the heat, touching in 55.16, which placed 12th for scoring purposes, as the rookie added five more points to the Mariners' total. He becomes an Honorable Mention All-American for the second time this week.

The last day of the NCAA National Championship Meet is Saturday and the Mariners will be competing in four swims over three events – sophomore Daniel Moore (Riverview, Fla.) in the 100 freestyle, Tolloti and Monahan in the 200 breaststroke and the 400 free relay to close out the meet.
