NEWBURGH, N.Y. (Oct. 22, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team lost on the road at first-place Skyline opponent Mount St. Mary on a rainy Tuesday night up at the Knights' Kaplan Field. In defeat, the Mariners fall to 9-6-1 (6-3-1 Skyline), while MSMC improves to 11-4-1 (8-0-1 Skyline) with the triumph.
Despite USMMA getting the first two shots in the game - one saved and the other wide - the lone tally of the night came in the 24th minute on Mount St. Mary's first shot of the evening by senior Joey Dolan. The Mariners had two more shots on goal the rest of the first half, but the Knights' junior keeper Tyler Rapp turned both aside.
Merchant Marine held an 8-7 advantage in shots in the second half, but it was the hosts who had the only two shots on goal and they were both saved by senior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) - his only two saves of the night.
The Mariners return to action this Sunday, Oct. 27, for their regular season finale against Skyline opponent Yeshiva University on Senior Day. Kickoff is scheduled for 12-noon at Brooks Stadium. Prior to the game, the team will pay tribute to its 10 graduating seniors with a special ceremony. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
