KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 19, 2019) – The USMMA men's soccer team was defeated in double-overtime on Saturday by Skyline Conference opponent Manhattanville, 1-0. The loss drops the Mariners to 9-5-1 (6-2-1 Skyline), while the Valiants improve to 10-2-2 (7-0-1 Skyline) with the win.

Manhattanville led the shot total at halftime, 10-4, including a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Senior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) made a couple of big saves in the first 45 minutes.

The Mariners had two prime chances to get on the scoreboard in the 76th minute when the Valiants were called for a foul in the box. Senior Sam McGill (Canton, Ohio) was called on to take the PK and fired a shot low left that Manhattanville freshman keeper Patryk Siwiec turned aside with a diving stop. That was followed up immediately by a blast from senior David Germain (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) on the rebound that Siwiec also stopped.

Neither team found the back of the net the remainder of regulation play, as the Valiants held an 18-10 advantage in total shots throughout 90 minutes, though Merchant Marine did have the only two shots on goal in the second half.

The Mariners fired the only two shots of the first overtime, one from the top of the box was blocked and another on a cross to the middle of the box was headed wide right.

In the second OT, Manhattanville had the first shot and it also sailed wide right, but they tallied the game-winner on a goal that was double-assisted in the 105th minute. Sophomore Cody LaCava crossed the ball in from the near side and it bounced to junior Alex Juma, whose one-touch pass led classmate Pablo Bravo Olle down the open middle and Olle fired a shot into the right side of the net.

Milner finished the night with six saves, while Siwiec had four stops for the Valiants.

The Mariners are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel up to Newburgh, N.Y., to take on 2018 Skyline Champion Mount St. Mary beginning at 7 p.m. at the Knights' Kaplan Field. Live links to follow along will be available on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page
