BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Oct. 15, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team got back in the win column with a Skyline Conference victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, 5-2, on Tuesday night at the Aviator Sports Center in Brooklyn. With the win, the Mariners improve to 9-4-1 (6-1-1 Skyline), while the Bears drop to 4-10-1 (2-5 Skyline) after suffering the loss.

Senior Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.) led the Mariners with two goals in the 13th and 24th minutes, both assisted by classmate Matt McCurnin (Newark, Del.), while McCurnin found the back of the net between those two tallies in the 17th minute. Freshman Jack Remark (Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored the last goal of the first half, unassisted in the 36th minute, and USMMA took the 4-0 lead into the halftime break.

St. Joe's got on the board in the 53rd minute when sophomore Joseph Sepulveda scored the first of his two tallies, but the Mariners responded right back just over four minutes later when sophomore Abram Ehrhorn (Papillion, Neb.) converted off of a corner kick taken by senior Sam McGill (Canton, Ohio). Sepulveda closed out the scoring in the contest with his second tally in the 72nd minute.

In goal, senior Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) earned the victory after playing the first 62.5 minutes. He was replaced by freshman Chase Miller (Boise, Idaho), who secured the win in the final 27.5 minutes of action.

For St. Joseph's-Brooklyn, junior keeper Alejandro Oliveros made 10 saves in the losing effort.

The Mariners are back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, Oct. 16, when they step outside of Skyline action to take on Lehman College beginning at 3:30 p.m. at the Lightning's South Field. Live links for the game will be available on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
