PURCHASE, N.Y. (Oct. 1, 2019) – Four different Mariners scored to lead the USMMA men's soccer team to a 4-0 victory on the road at Purchase College Tuesday night. With the win, the Mariners improved to 7-3 overall and remains undefeated, 4-0, in Skyline Conference action. Purchase is now 5-3-1 on the season and faced its first league loss, dropping to 3-1.

Senior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) earned the victory and shutout, improving to 7-1. Panther freshman Mario Olmedo was dealt the loss with four goals against and five saves tallied.

The Mariners attack was balanced across eight different players with a total of 20 shots, nine on goal.

The first goal and eventual game-winner was scored by senior forward Alex Madonna (Gibsonia, Pa.) in the 14th minute. Assisted by classmate Austin Flores (Wichita, Kan.), Madonna received a cross from the left side and unleashed a curling low shot that Olmedo had no chance to stop.

Thirteen minutes later, senior Nick Roros (Northport, N.Y.) found the back of the net to put the Mariners ahead 2-0. Roros's first shot was blocked but he collected the rebound in the box and then beat the keeper into the upper right corner, unassisted. The scored remained 2-0 headed into halftime.

In the second half, Madonna set up junior midfielder Ryan Haines (Marlton, N.J.) for the Mariners's third goal of the match in the 52nd minute. Madonna crossed the ball into the top of the box to Haines who shot a floater that eventually landed into the top left. The goal was Haines's second of the season.

USMMA remained in possession for the majority of the match as Purchase only had three shots, zero on goal. Then in the 89th minute, freshman Jack Remark (Pittsburgh, Pa.) found the head of senior Patrick McLaughlin (Allentown, Pa.), who sent the ball high into center of the goal for the final 4-0 score. It was McLaughlin's first career goal and Remark's first career assist.
