BRONX, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2019) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team improved to 2-0 in Skyline action with a 3-0 road victory at SUNY Maritime on Wednesday evening at the Privateers' Reinhart Field. The Mariners are now 5-3 overall, while Maritime evened to 5-5 on the season and are 0-1 in conference play.
The first goal of the match, and the eventual game-winner, was scored by junior forward Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) to the lower left corner of the goal in the 10th minute of play. It was his third goal of the season. The assist came from sophomore defender Abram Ehrhorn (Papillion, Neb.) on a great through ball.
The Mariners then made it a 2-0 game as senior forward Alex Madonna (Gibsonia, Pa.) found the upper right corner of the goal in the 16th minute. His goal was unassisted. To view the impressive goal by Madonna, click here.
SUNY Maritime fought to get on the scoreboard, but senior goalkeeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) and the USMMA defense kept the Privateers at bay. Milner collected four saves in the victory and improved to 5-1 overall with three shutouts (two solo).
Possession was quite even to start the second half. However, the third goal was scored off a deflection off of a SUNY Maritime player into his own team's net in the 76th minute.
For the Privateers, Anthony Sbiendorio led the attack with four shots, two of which were on goal. Keeper Michael Rodriguez faced the loss with four saves made. He is now 3-4 on the season.
The USMMA men's soccer team returns to action this Saturday, Sept. 28, when the Mariners host St. Joseph's-L.I. in Skyline Conference action. Kickoff is slated for 12-noon at Tomb Field at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video feed for the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page.
