McCurnin’s 30th-Minute Tally Lifts Soccer To 1-0 Win At Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (Oct. 6, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team defeated Skyline opponent Farmingdale State, 1-0, on the road on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Mariners improve to 7-3-2 (3-2-1 Skyline) on the year, while the Rams fall to 6-5 (2-2 Skyline) with the loss. 

Junior Matt McCurnin (Newark, Del.) scored the only goal of the afternoon for USMMA in the 30th minute. The tally was assisted by sophomore Joe Clark (Baltimore, Md.)

The Mariners outshot Farmingdale, 15-3, on the afternoon, including 8-0 in the opening half. Junior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) was kept busy in the second half, as two of the Rams' shots were on goal, both saved, including one in the final three minutes that was turned aside. He earned his fifth shutout of the season (fourth solo). 

For Farmingdale, senior keeper Scott Flores made six saves in the losing effort. 

Up next, Merchant Marine will host Skyline opponent Purchase this coming Wednesday, Oct. 10. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. Live stats and a live video stream of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Soccer Schedule Page
