KINGS POING, N.Y. (Sept. 26, 2018) – The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team played Skyline Conference opponent Old Westbury to a scoreless draw at home Wednesday night at Brooks Stadium. The game was called after the first overtime period due to lightning. With the tie, the Mariners' record moves to 4-2-2 (0-1-1 Skyline), while the Panthers move to 4-4-1 (1-0-1 Skyline).

Both teams played a scoreless opening period as USMMA totaled seven shots (three on goal) to Old Westbury's five (one on goal).
Old Westbury put the pressure on by taking four shots (one on goal) during a 10-minute stretch early in the second half. The Panthers held a 4-3 advantage in shots during the second stanza as the game moved to overtime.
After a combined drought of 22:21 without a shot, Old Westbury fired an attempt at 6:28 into the first overtime for the lone shot of the period, which was turned away by USMMA junior keeper Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.).
Shots ended up dead even at 10-apiece, and shots on goal were also even at three for each team. Freshman David Kelly (Lutherville, Md.) led the Mariners with three shots on the night, including two on goal. For Old Westbury, junior Edens Avril had a game-high four shots with one on goal.
Milner earned his fourth shutout of the season after making three saves, while his counterpart, senior Mike Warren, also had three stops for OW for his third shutout of the year.
The Mariners are back in action this Saturday, Sept. 29, when they travel out to Patchogue in Suffolk County to take on St. Joseph's-L.I. The Skyline Conference showdown is scheduled to get underway at 12-noon at the Golden Eagles' Danzi Stadium.
