Mariners Cruise Past Lehman At Home, 6-1

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 15, 2018) - The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men's soccer team won its home, non-conference matchup against visiting Lehman College, 6-1, on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium. The victory improves the Mariners' record to 4-1 on the season, while the Lightning fall to 2-4. 

Sophomore Zach Lysakowski (Reading, Pa.) did what he does best once again for the Mariners, and that's find the back of the net, as he scored twice in the victory - the first two goals of the game in the 10th and 24th minutes. The second tally was his fourth game-winner of the season. 

The first goal of the game was assisted by junior Matt McCurnin (Newark, Del.), while freshman David Kelly (Lutherville, Md.) picked up the helper on the game-winner. 

USMMA scored two more times before halftime, as junior David Germain (Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.) stuffed in a rebound in the in the 37th minute off an initial shot by sophomore Ryan Haines (Marlton, N.J.) that hit the left post an then just over six minutes later, Haines assisted on sophomore Joe Clark's (Baltimore, Md.) first career goal. 

The Mariners' fifth goal came in the 58th minute off a corner kick taken by freshman Daniel Murphy (Sandwich, Mass.). The ball was deflected by sophomore Jeremy Diehl (Hope Township, N.J.) right to freshman big-man Abram Ehrhorn (Papillion, Neb.), who tapped it in past the Lehman keeper for his first career goal. Murphy and Diehl picked up assists on that tally. 

The Lightning scored on a penalty kick by senior Salh Alzubidi in the 74th minute to negate a potential shutout, before Germain rounded out the scoring on the afternoon with an 83rd minute goal when he found space through a couple of Lehman defenders in the box and fired a shot over the keeper's outstretched hands and into the back of the net. 

In goal for the Mariners, junior Matthew Milner (Mount Airy, Md.) picked up the victory, playing just under 63 minutes with one save. Freshman Alvaro Herrera Padilla (Panama City, Panama) came in for the final 27 minutes and made three saves. 

The Mariners return to the pitch on Tuesday night, Sept. 18, when they travel to Hoboken, N.J. to take on old Skyline rival Stevens Institute.
