• 76 Student-Athletes Named To Skyline Conference Winter & Spring Academic Honor Roll

    The Skyline Conference announced its Academic Honor Roll for the 2018-19 Winter and 2019 Spring seasons on Tuesday and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy had a total of 76 student-athletes over nine different sports recognized for their hard work in the classroom during their respective seasons.

    The United States Merchant Marine Academy held its 2019 Awards Convocation on Friday morning at the Ackerman Auditorium as part of Kings Point Weekend festivities, which culminates with commencement exercises on Saturday. Four major athletic award winners were announced during the ceremony – the Male and Female Athletes of the Year as well as the two Coaches of the Year – along with a number of other athletic awards and honors.

    USMMA men’s lacrosse senior midfielder Michael Rodriguez (Coronado, Calif.) was selected to the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Second Team, the league announced on Thursday. The praise comes after Rodriguez’s final season at Kings Point, where he helped lead the Mariners to an 11-5 overall record and the #2 seed in the Skyline Tournament, where they fell to top-seeded SUNY Maritime in the Finals.

    The USMMA men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Farmingdale State, 21-8, on Wednesday night in the Skyline Conference Semifinals at Brooks Stadium. With the victory, the Mariners improve to 11-4 and will move on to the Skyline Finals for the second straight season, where they will look to defend their conference title against top-seed SUNY Maritime on Saturday. The Rams end the season 11-6.

The victory improves the Mariners’ record to 10-4 (5-1 Skyline), while the Panthers end the season 6-7 (1-5 Skyline).

With the triumph, the Mariners improve to 8-4 (3-1 Skyline), while also handing FSC its first conference loss, dropping the Rams to 10-4 overall (3-1 Skyline).

    The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy men’s lacrosse team suffered a tough setback on the road at Skyline rival SUNY Maritime, 19-9, at the Privateers’ Reinhart Field. With the loss, the Mariners fall to 7-4 (2-1 Skyline), while Maritime improves to 9-3 (3-0 Skyline) in victory.

The accolade comes after Renard’s performances in the Mariners’ two home wins last week – 23-2 on Tuesday over Mount St. Vincent and 14-6 on Saturday over St. Joseph’s-L.I.

Merchant Marine improves to 7-3 (2-0 Skyline) with the victory, while the Golden Eagles fall to 3-7 (0-2 Skyline) in defeat.

Merchant Marine improves to 6-3 (1-0 Skyline) with the victory, while the Dolphins fall to 1-8 (0-1 Skyline) in defeat.
