KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 9, 2016) – The USMMA men's lacrosse team defeated visiting Landmark Conference foe Drew University, 12-6, on a wet Saturday afternoon at Brooks Stadium. The Mariners improve to 9-2 on the season (2-1 in Landmark action), while the Rangers fall to 1-10 (0-4 Landmark).

Sophomore Pat Coll (Clifton Park, N.Y.) supplied a majority of the offense for Merchant Marine, as he scored six goals to bring his season total to 50, while also dishing out three assists for nine points on the afternoon. Classmate Nick Treon (Danville, Pa.) added two goals and three assists and with his three assists, his season total moves to 35, which is one shy of tying the single-season program record currently held by three former Mariners.

The four other USMMA goals came from the sticks of senior Ethan Medler (Kingwood, Texas) and freshman Jack Renard (San Clemente, Calif.), who both scored twice. Freshman Charley Hughes (Baltimore, Md.) was 11-for-16 on faceoffs with a game-high seven groundballs. Senior Eric Kennedy (Massapequa, N.Y.) also scooped up six GBs for the Mariners, while classmate Gus Sawicki (Louisville, Colo.) led the squad with three caused turnovers. In goal, senior Kevin Young (Springfield, Va.) earned the victory with 13 saves.

For Drew, senior Steven Cola and freshman Brendan Hamm both had two goals in the game, while freshmen Ryan D'Alessandro and Thomas Ensmenger produced the other two tallies. Three players tied for the team-high with three groundballs each, and junior Michael Lloyd led all players in the game with four caused turnovers. In the cage, sophomore Greg Swenson suffered the loss despite making 18 saves.

The Mariners will take a break from mid-week games this week and return to action next Saturday, April 16, when they travel to Scranton to take on the Royals, who they are currently tied in the Landmark standings with right now with identical 2-1 records.
