Mariners Escape Brooklyn With 76-67 Overtime Win Over St. Joseph’s

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (Jan. 19, 2019) – The USMMA men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 76-67 overtime victory over St. Joseph's-Brooklyn in Skyline Conference action on Saturday at SJC's Hill Center. The win, which was the Mariners' sixth in their last nine games, improves their record to 6-9 overall (4-7 Skyline), while the Bears fall to 6-11 (5-8 Skyline) with the loss. 

Freshman Jack Bucher (Carlisle, Pa.) and sophomore James Walsh (Huntington, N.Y.) both scored a team-high 18 points apiece, while junior Connor Green (Flower Mound, Texas) and freshman Blaine McDonough (Marietta, Ga.) added 11 points each. Green and Walsh both dished out a game-high six assists apiece, while Green tied for the game-best with four steals. 

Senior David Washington (Frisco, Texas) led all players in the game with 17 rebounds, while also scoring eight points and blocking a game-high six shots. Sophomore Seth Barnes (Chillicothe, Ohio) contributed seven points off the bench. 

For St. Joseph's, junior Dimitri Sirakis recorded 24 points to lead all scorers, while sophomore Frank Reali added 16 and junior Sebastien Etheart had the game's only double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. 

The Mariners will welcome in the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons this coming Wednesday, Jan. 23, for a Skyline Conference showdown beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Liebertz Gymnasium. Live stats and a live video feed of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Men's Basketball Schedule Page
