Mariner Football Featured Heavily On "In The Huddle" Regional Podcast Released Tuesday

KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2019) – Co-host of the regional D3 Football podcast "In The Huddle" Frank Rossi was in attendance at USMMA football's 45-0 shutout victory over SUNY Maritime this past Saturday during Homecoming Weekend and caught up with Head Coach Mike Toop '77 and a couple of student-athletes on the field after the contest. The newest episode of the podcast was released on Facebook and many other outlets on Tuesday afternoon.

After a hilarious opening segment of the podcast in which Rossi and Coach Toop roast the podcast's other co-host, James Baker, the rest of the show features well over 10 minutes of coverage of the win and post-game interviews.

At around the 7:20 mark of the video, during the podcast's "Crunchtime" segment, Rossi quickly recaps the victory and the impressive performance by the Mariner defense, which earned the program's first shutout since the 2003 season, and the contributions on offense by seniors Krystian Abbott (Lansing, Kan.) and Joe Vitelli (Warrington, Pa.).

Then later on in the podcast, at around the 30:45 mark of the video, is where they get into the post-game interviews – starting with the offensive players Abbott and Vitelli, then moving on to sophomore defensive lineman Tyler Sloman (Poulsbo, Wash.), who had a big third-quarter sack in the game, and then ending with Coach Toop and his thoughts on the victory and the rebound after the season-opening loss to FDU-Florham.

"In The Huddle" is a podcast that has provided weekly analysis, insight and coverage of NCAA East Region Division III Football since 2008. Rossi and Baker have been longtime friends of the USMMA football program and Rossi regularly attends about 1-2 games at the Academy each season… and we're still waiting for the "Guitar Hero" Baker to make his way up to Kings Point.

The 1-1 Mariners will open up NEWMAC Conference action this Saturday, Sept. 28, with a road matchup against another industry-rival school, Maine Maritime. Kickoff is slated for 12-noon on Ritchie Field up in Castine, Maine. Live stats and a live video stream of the game will be available with links on the USMMA Football Schedule Page.
