In 1964 Stephen Schmidt was named Kings Point’s annual Adm. Stedman Trophy winner as the Mariners’ Most Outstanding Athlete. He was a four-year letter winner for the Academy’s wrestling team, and served as the Blue and Gray’s co-captain in 1963-64.
He received the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Wrestling Award for his outstanding ability during three of his four years. In 1964 Schmidt competed against 43 schools in the Case Institute of Technology Tournament in Cleveland, one of the biggest wrestling meets in the country; placing first in his weight class at the tournament.
