In his four years on the Kinds Point Indoor and Outdoor Track and Cross Country Teams, William Sargeant set five Academy records, won three individual titles, and was a member of six Championship teams. A four-year letter winner in both sports from 1961-64, Sargeant held Academy records in the cross country five-mile (25:58), outdoor track two-mile (9:38), outdoor track one-mile (4:16.9), outdoor track half-mile (1:56), and indoor track 1000-meter (2:17.6). With the help of Sargeant, the cross country team won the Long Island Athletic Association Championship for three straight years from 1961-63. The track team won the Collegiate Track Conference Championship in 1961 and 1963, and the indoor track team finished second in the CTC in 1964. Sargeant also distinguished himself with three CTC Indoor Track Titles in the one-mile even (1961), the two-mile event (1963), and the 1000-meter event (1964).
