Title: HOF Class of '97

Kevin Popelka was honored with the 1982 Admiral Giles C. Stedman Award, given to Kings Point's Most Outstanding Athlete following a stellar basketball career with the Mariners. A four year letter winner and co-captain his senior year, he still ranks third on the Academy's All Time Scorers List with 1,659 career points. Popelka was named the Most Valuable Player during three of his four seasons, the first person in basketball history to make that mark. He earned his first MVP award as a freshman who was brought up to the varsity team from the junior varsity program. During Kevin's career with the Blue and Gray, he was nominated to every Tournament All-Star Team. Following graduation, Kevin had a tryout with the Washington Bullets and played semi-pro ball with Tenneco in Virginia and Ebasco in Vera Cruz, Mexico.
