|Title:||HOF Class of '17|
An eight-time letterman, despite spending his entire sophomore year at sea, Raymond Kruse ’56 was a member of four different teams at the Academy—track and field, football, wrestling, and swimming. He was a starter on the football team during his Plebe season before an injury limited his time. Kruse was then the leading point-scorer for the swim team as a freshman before joining the wrestling team his junior and senior years, where he competed in the heavyweight class. As a thrower for the outdoor track and field team, Kruse medaled at the Outdoor Conference Championships in both the discus (silver) and the shot put (bronze), setting Academy records in both events. While at sea, still the athlete, Kruse went on to win the Southeast Asian Games Heavyweight boxing championships.
