The Mariners Go 1-2 In A Home Quad Match On Senior Day

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team went 1-2 in their final home games of the season. The Mariners defeated Kean, 3-2 and then fell to Baruch, 3-1 and William Paterson, 3-1. Jesselyn LaValley and Jenna Palaschak led the way for the Mariners.
The Mariners finish the 2009 regular season with an overall record of 14-14.
LaValley led USMMA against Kean with 22 digs, 14 kills, eight service aces and seven blocks. Palaschak helped out with 38 assists, seven digs, three kills and two service aces. Freshman Marisa Sanchez added 15 digs, 13 kills and two blocks. Freshman Jessica Tyack pitched in with 10 kills and two digs.
Nicole Bolash led the Cougars for the match with 11 digs and seven kills. Colleen Masterson helped out with 28 assists, three digs and three kills. Danica Meade pitched in with nine digs and three service aces.
Against Baruch, LaValley led the Mariners with 14 kills, 13 digs and five blocks. Tyack added seven kills while Palaschak finished with 24 assists. Senior Patricia Greene ended her day with 14 digs and two kills.
The Bearcats finished with a very balanced attack. Lauren Hayden led the way in kills with 11 while Christina Pierre added nine. Melinda Santiago pitched in with 30 assists and Posey Wilson led the team in digs with 25.
In the William Paterson game, LaValley led the way again with 18 kills, 13 digs and four blocks. Tyack again was second on the team in kills with 12 while Palaschak finished with 33 assists. Junior Co-Captain Ana Fuschetto recorded 12 digs and Greene finished with nine digs and three kills.
The Pioneers were led by Kelly Helfrich with 24 kills, 17 digs and four blocks. Megan Maher added 13 digs and 12 kills while Jillian Bronowich finished with 20 assists. Michellel Leeder led the Pioneers in digs with 18.
USMMA returns to action on Wednesday, November 4th when they travel to Catholic University of the first round of the Landmark Conference Tournament. Game time is slated for 7:00 pm.
