Picillo Named Defensive Player of Year; Grimes Tabbed to 2nd-Team

On Wednesday morning, the Landmark Conference released its All-Conference
squads for the 2009-10 women’s basketball season and U.S. Merchant Marine
Academy junior guard Rebecca Grimes was named to the Landmark All-Conference Second-team. Senior guard Brooke Picillo
took home her second Defensive Player of the Year trophy, winning it last after

U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s basketball team was defeated by
Drew
University
on Saturday afternoon, 60-48, at Baldwin Gymnasium in Madison N.J. Junior
forward Janay Weathers
had an outstanding game as
she finished with a double-double (17 points, 16 rebounds), however it was not
enough to fend off the Rangers. With the victory, Drew finished the season with
an overall record of 14-11 and a Landmark Conference slate of 5-9. Following
the loss, Kings Point closed out its season with an overall ledger of 10-15 and

Weathers notched a double-double on Friday evening
with a game-high 13 rebounds and 11 points, but it wasn’t enough as the United
States Merchant Marine Academy women’s basketball team lost by a 58-47 decision
to Goucher College in a Landmark Conference contest at Liebertz Gymnasium in
Kings Point, N.Y. The Mariners have now dropped to 9-14 overall and 1-11 in
league play. As for the Gophers, they improved to 6-15 and 2-9 versus Landmark
foes.

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – On Tuesday evening, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women’s basketball squad powered past the College of New Rochelle, 67-19, at the Wellness Center in New Rochelle, N.Y. Freshman forward Emily Meehan netted a game-high 16 points and also brought down seven rebounds. With the victory, the Mariners improved to 9-13 on the season. The United States Merchant Marine Academy women’s basketball team fell to Juniata College this afternoon 59-57. The Mariners fall to 8-13 overall, 1-10 Landmark while the Golden Eagles improve to 14-8 overall, 8-3 Landmark.
