Wilfredo de Jesus begins his second season as an assistant trackand field coach, working primarily with throwers.  He alsohelps with strength training and off-season work for all speed andpower events.

In 2011-12, he was responsible for the firstwomen’s individual Landmark Champion in the history ofthe Academy, Tara Mulligan.  In working with De Jesus,her personal best mark in the Hammer Throw improved from 33 metersto a mark of 42.49m. She repeatedly broke Academy recordsthroughout the season in the both the Hammer and Weight Throws (8times). Milligan was also Landmark Conference Runner-up in the WTwith a mark of 13.1m.  

In addition to the success Coach de Jesus achieved withMidshipman Mulligan, he also coached Kevin Stapf (who had notthrown prior to last season) to a national ranking of26th in the Javelin with a mark of 59.08m. The men’s throwing crew performed well as a whole under theguidance of De Jesus. After a four year hiatus from throwing, SR EdLogan threw a  personal best mark in the Shot Put of 13.13m,which was also a runner-up finish in the Landmark ConferenceChampionships. 

De Jesus is the 2007 Puerto Rican National Athlete of the Year.He is also Puerto Rico's record holder in the Under-23 hammer throwat 64.39 meters and brings a wealth of experience in the throwingevents.

De Jesus has represented Puerto Rico at several internationalcompetitions including the Central American and CaribbeanChampionships in 2009 (Havana, Cuba) and in 2010 (Mayaguez, PuertoRico) finishing as high as seventh place in the hammer. He was abronze medalist at the 2007 Junior Pan American Games in the sameevent.

He also has been involved in competitive weightlifting sincehigh school, where he twice finished as national runner-up forPuerto Rico in the Super-Heavyweight class. He currently competesfor USA Weightlifting during his "off-season" in the Snatch andClean & Jerk.

His collegiate honors included the IC4A indoor champion in theweight throw (2011), IC4A outdoor champion in the hammer throw(2011), America East indoor champion in the weight throw (2009,2010 and 2011), America East outdoor champion in the hammer throw(2009, 2011), America East Conference indoor performer of the year(2011) and SUNY-Albany indoor MVP (2011).

De Jesus earned a B.S. degree in human biology at SUNY Albany in2011. He also completed the USATF Level 1 coachingcertification this past winter.
