Third time’s a charm for Mariner’s women’s athlete of the week Rattan

KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The third time certainly was a charm for U.S. Merchant Marine Academy senior Lauren Rattan.

For the third time this fall, the women's cross country runner was named the Mariners' women's athlete of the week on Monday

She was honored for the week ending on Sunday, Nov. 13.

Rattan ran the 6K course at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships in Canton, N.Y. on Saturday in a lifetime-best 24:45, the fastest time by a Merchant Marine women's athlete in years. She took 28 seconds off her previous best mark, which was clocked at the Paul Short Invitational on Sept. 30.

Women's cross country coach Greg Lott certainly was impressed with Rattan's performance.

"I was thrilled with Lauren's race in particular," he said. "She has worked so hard and she really performed to her capabilities."

Rattan won this honor twice before on Oct. 5 and 25.
