ECAC cross country championships a learning experience for Mariners women

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy women completed its penultimate race of the season on a beautiful course in the Berkshire mountains contesting the Eastern College Athletic women's cross country championships at Greylock Mountain on Saturday.

Senior Lauren Rattan was the top finisher for the Mariners running a time of 25:43 to come in at 80th place over the 6K course. Freshman Amber Kinter was the next highest scorer for the mariners, running a 27:35 for 151st place.

"This is a tough race for our ladies," USMMA women's cross country coach Greg Lott said. "Our young team sputtered a little in this tough championship environment. It was a good experience for them, though. That will help prepare them for the NCAA regional meet as well as other future events of this magnitude."

The USMMA will head to St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y. for the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championships this weekend to square off against the top programs in the area.
