Senior Lauren Rattan, who was the top Kings Point finisher at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University, was named the Mariners' women athlete of the week.
Rattan completed the 6K course in 25:13, finishing in 67th place out of 335 runners in Bethlehem, Pa. last Friday. The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy finished 31st out of 46 teams competing in its category, beating Landmark Conference rival Drew University.
A total of 135 teams competed in meet that was broken into three sections. The meet included four of the nation's "Top 10" teams (No. 1 Georgetown, No. 3 Providence, No. 5 Villanova and No. 9 Duke). All major conferences and divisions from across the country were represented.
"Senior Lauren Rattan ran exceptionally well and showed solid improvement," women's cross country coach Greg Lott said. "She had a great showing of her foot-speed as she out-kicked at least a half dozen women over the final 100 meters."
