KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Oct. 10, 2017) – USMMA senior Alex Miller (Stevensville, Mich.) was named the Skyline Conference Women's Volleyball Rookie of the Week on Monday and then the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) selected her as its DIII Metro Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Additionally, senior Dominique Pope (Silver Spring, Md.) earned a spot on the Skyline weekly honor roll. These accolades came after the duo's performances in the Mariners' only match of the week last week, a 3-1 road Skyline victory at Mount St. Mary on Wednesday night.
Miller served as the Mariners' primary setter for the conference contest and recorded a match-high 36 assists to go along with a team-high 14 digs. It was just her second time setting this season and was her first career double-double. She also added two service aces and one block on the night.
Pope led all players in the road win with 14 kills and recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 13 digs. She also contributed one block and one assist to the victory.
The Mariners have four players featured in the Skyline top-10 statistical rankings with sophomore Kyleigh Kappas (Parker, Colo.) leading all conference setters with 8.50 assists per set, Pope coming in at third in the league with 3.02 kills per set, classmate Tichina Carmon (Greenville, N.C.) also ranking third with 0.85 blocks per set and junior Kate Lefler (Norman, Okla.), who ranks fourth with 2.92 kills per set and ninth with a .209 hitting percentage.
