KINGS POINT, N.Y. (Sept. 24, 2015) – The USMMA women's volleyball team traveled up to the Riverdale section of the Bronx on Thursday to take on the College of Mount St. Vincent. The Mariners took a commanding 2-0 lead in the match, before seeing the Dolphins tie the match up, 2-2. The Mariners held off the Dolphins to take the fifth and final set and earn the win.
With the win, Merchant Marine moved to 8-4 on the season, while CMSV fell to 3-8 in defeat.
For the third straight match, freshman Brianne Cook (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded a triple-double with 15 kills, 13 assists and 13 digs. Sophomore Kayla Gleason (Sound Beach, N.Y.) dished out 22 assists on the night, while three other Mariners picked up double-digit digs – junior Gabby Marionakis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) and sophomore Dominique Pope (Silver Spring, Md.) both led the team with 18 digs apiece, and freshman Nicole Ibinson (Fredericksburg, Va.) recorded 12 digs.
The Mariners will host a Landmark Conference Quad-Match this Saturday, Sept. 26, during Homecoming Weekend at Kings Point. USMMA will start off the action against Goucher at the Lierbertz Gymnasium in a match that will start between 11:30-12 p.m. Catholic will then take on Scranton at 1:30 p.m., before Goucher takes on Scranton at 4 p.m. Merchant Marine wraps up action at 6:30 p.m. against Catholic.
