PURCHASE, N.Y. (Sept. 9, 2015) – On Wednesday night, the USMMA women's volleyball team lost its first match of the year in a hard-fought 3-1 defeat at Manhattanville College. The Mariners fall to 4-1 on the season, while the Valiants improve to 4-0.
Freshman Brianne Cook (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) recorded a team-high 13 kills, while sophomore Kayla Gleason (Sound Beach, N.Y.) dished out 33 assists to go along with 13 digs. Sophomore Dominique Pope (Silver Spring, Md.) picked up a team-best 20 digs and four other Mariners had double-digit digs – Gleason (13), junior Gabby Marionakis (Royal Palm Beach, Fla.) (12), classmate Darin Zacharias (Virginia Beach, Va.) (11) and freshman Nicole Ibinson (Fredericksburg, Va.) (10).

After a tough two-point loss in the third set, 25-23, it seemed that the host Valiants had the momentum going into the clinching set, which they won 25-14 to seal the victory.
Manhattanville was led by junior Alissa Primavera, who led all players in the match with 19 kills. Classmate Megan Quinabo added 43 assists and 15 digs. Sophomore Kerry Mackey contributed 11 kills in the win.
The Mariners are back at it on Saturday, Sept. 12, when they host arch-rival Coast Guard at 12-noon in the Liebertz Gymnasium at O'Hara Hall. Live stats and live video will be available for the match.
