Jamaica, NY – The Mariners clenched their third victory on the road last night as they swept the York (NY) Cardinals in 3 straight sets. This marks their 7th consecutive win this season and they remain undefeated with the offensive leadership of freshman setter Kayla Gleason (Sound Beach, NY). Gleason dished out 34 assists last night coupled with 3 digs and a service ace to top it off.
The Mariners handled the first set swiftly (25-14) by hitting a .192 hitting percentage and keeping the Cardinals at .000 throughout the game. On the match, USMMA held York at 0.046 with 10 digs from sophomore libero Darin Zacharias (Virginia Beach, VA) and an additional 5 from sophomore defensive specialist Gabby Marionakis (Royal Palm Beach, FL).
In the second and third, York came back on a mission to take down the Mariners and even lead through the first part of the second set. After a time out and a quick refocus, the USMMA team fought through the teens and took the lead, holding the Cardinals to 20 points. Again, the match was a big day for the middle blockers. Jennifer Perkins (North Attleboro, MA) hit 14 kills with an impressive .647 percentage on 17 total attempts. Jordy Macbeth (Orlando, FL) also contributed adding 6 kills at .455 on 11 total attempts. Outsides, Danhof (San Antonio, TX) and Palma (Loomis, CA) added 9 and 8 kills respectively as they lead the team to victory.
