Volleyball Falls to Elmira in ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament Semifinals

Union, NJ – The USMMA volleyball team closed out the 2013 season Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the ECAC Metro/Upstate Tournament.  The Mariners dropped a 3-0 decision to second-seeded Elmira with set scores of 25-10, 25-10, and 25-9.  USMMA committed 18 hitting errors while the Soaring Eagles posted 36 kills along with a .325 hitting percentage. 

Merchant Marine (12-6) was paced by the eight digs of Cassie Walter (Rocky Ford, CO) while Paige Queen (Falcon, CO) dished out nine assists.  Jordy Macbeth (Orlando, FL) tallied two service aces and one solo block.

Elmira (22-12) got a match high 21 kills from Taryn Rumsey, who also hit at a .548 percentage.  The Soaring Eagles closed the match with 11 service aces and four blocks.  Catherine Miller anchored the Elmira defense with 18 digs as the Mariners were held to just 11 kills for the afternoon.

Merchant Marine finishes the 2013 season with a 12-6 record, the program's best winning percentage in over ten years.
