Volleyball to Compete in Landmark Conference Tournament Play-In Game

TOWSON, Md. – After two weekends of Landmark competition, the seeds have been determined for the 2013 Landmark Volleyball Tournament. First round matches will take place Tuesday, Nov. 5 in advance of the semifinals Friday, Nov. 8 and the championship Saturday, Nov. 9.  

The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy was unable to compete in either conference weekend due to the 16-day government shutdown. Conference administrators have adjusted the tournament format to allow a play-in match between USMMA and sixth seeded Goucher College on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 4 p.m. The winner of the match will face off against No. 3 Catholic University Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m.. On the other side of the bracket, No. 4 University of Scranton will host No. 5 Moravian College in a first round match Nov. 5 at 7:00 p.m.

The winners of the first round matches will travel to top-seeded Juniata College for the semifinals Nov. 8. For the first time since 2007, the semifinals and championship match will take place on different days. Juniata will serve as host for the semifinals and final Nov. 8-9 in Huntingdon, Pa. As the No. 1 seed, the Eagles will take on the winner of the No. 4/5 match at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening. No. 2 Susquehanna University will take on the winner of the No. 3/6 match at 8:00 p.m. The championship match is scheduled for Saturday at a time yet to be determined.

Juniata earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament for the seventh consecutive year. The Eagles went undefeated in conference play this season at 5-0 to boast a 41-0 Landmark record all-time. Susquehanna jumped two spots in the standings from 2012 and finished 4-1 with its only loss coming against nationally ranked Juniata. Last year's runner-up, Catholic, went 3-2 while Scranton was 2-3 and Moravian was 1-4. Goucher wrapped up 0-5 this season.
