Mariners Stumble in Two Landmark Conference Matches

Towson, MD – The USMMA volleyball team dropped 3-0 decisions to Juniata and Moravian in the second day of the first Landmark Conference weekend of 2012.  Michelle Danhof (San Antonio, TX) finished the day with 11 kills while Cassandra Palma (Loomis, CA) racked up 20 digs on the afternoon, including 15 against the Greyhounds.  The Mariners closed out the weekend with a 0-3 record.

Merchant Marine (8-9, 0-3 Landmark) started Sunday with tough assignment, drawing #21 Juniata.  The Golden Eagles racked up 28 kills along with a .281 hitting percentage in the straight set triumph.  The Mariners were held to a -.066 swinging mark in the match as Danhof recorded a team high six kills.  Juniata secured the win with scores of 25-14, 25-5, and 25-17.

Moravian was able to take advantage of 19 USMMA hitting errors and eventually came away with the victory, 25-13, 25-14, and 25-23.  Palma, Danhof, and Kelly Hodges (Lakewood, CO) all notched five kills versus the Greyhounds.  Jesse Krassley anchored the Moravian defense with a match best 21 digs.

Merchant Marine will look to get back on track as they return to action Wednesday night, at home inside O'Hara Hall, at 7:00 pm against Manhattanville.
