Volleyball Falls to Goucher in Straight Sets to Open Landmark Weekend
Towson, MD – The USMMA volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at the hands of the host of the first Landmark Conference weekend of 2012, Goucher, Saturday afternoon. Michelle Danhof (San Antonio, TX) racked up a team high 11 kills in the loss. Cassandra Palma (Loomis, CA) paced the defense with 12 digs.
Merchant Marine (8-7, 0-1 Landmark) dropped a match in three sets for only the third time this season. The Mariners finished the match with a .202 hitting percentage compared to the .255 mark posted by the Gophers. USMMA fell by scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-18.
Goucher (5-12, 1-0 Landmark) came out on fire, posting a .407 hitting percentage on 12 kills and just one error in the opening game. Megan Chalk notched a match best 12 kills and swung at a .333 clip. Tori Rain and Ashley Fan both finished with double digit digs for the Gophers.
Charlene Swick (Incline Village, NV) slammed down five kills without making an error on nine total swings (.556).
The Mariners will continue the first Landmark Conference weekend of the year tomorrow as they square-off with Juniata and Moravian.
