Women's volleyball wins second straight

KINGS POINT, N.Y. -- The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy won its second consecutive women's volleyball match, defeating Rutgers-Newark, 3-1, on Tuesday night.

 

 

 



The Mariners won the first set, 25-19, dropped the second, 25-22, but captured the last two, 25-21 and 25-20.

 

 



Jessica Tyack (Lake Isabella, Calif.) finished with 10 kills and three blocks. Jenn Perkins (North Attleboro, Mass.) contributed nine kills, hitting at a .692 rate.

 

 



Miranda Walz (Monona, Iowa) collected 16 assists, three kills and three aces and Cassandra Palma (Loomis, Calif.) added nine kills and 13 digs.

 

 

"It's a good step in the right direction," coach James Seitelman said. "It shows the talent we have on the team.

 

 

"It shows a glimpse of what we can do. I'm pleased with how they've played this early in the season."

 

 

Kings Point will host archrival Coast Guard at noon on Saturday.
