Volleyball Concludes 2010 Season with 2-2 Weekend at Hunter

NEW YORK, N.Y. – This past weekend, the United States Merchant Marine Academy women's volleyball team closed out its 2010 season with a pair of wins and a pair of losses in the Hunter College Tournament at the Hunter Sportsplex in New York, N.Y. With the weekend's action, the Mariners finish the year with a 12-20 overall record.
 
Saturday: USMMA 3, Manhattanville 1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 28-26)
 
In the opening match of the weekend for Kings Point, the Mariners bested Manhattanville College, 3-1. Freshman outside hitter Kelly Hodges (Lakewood, Colo.) recorded a team-high 14 kills, while rookie middle hitter Julie Flaherty (West Islip, N.Y.) notched 10. Senior libero/setter Ana Fuschetto (Swink, Colo.) distributed a game-high 33 assists. Freshman middle hitter Michelle Daneu (Malabar, Fla.) had 14 digs.
 
Saturday: Hunter 3, USMMA 0 (13-25, 22-25, 15-25)
 
Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Tyack (Lake Isabella, Calif.) had nine kills against Hunter College, while Fuschetto amassed 16 assists. Junior Kim Glore (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) had the squad-best in digs (8), while Fuschetto and Hodges had six each.
 
Sunday: USMMA 3, Farmingdale State 0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-14)
 
Tyack had the game-high in kills with 10, while also swatting a trio of service aces. Fuschetto once again put up a double-digit assists count (23). Glore posted eight digs for the second-consecutive match.
 
Sunday: Montclair State 3, USMMA 2 (25-16, 17-25, 25-19, 18-25, 16-18)
 
In their final match of the 2010 season, the Mariners fell to Montclair State in a tough five-set sparring. Three Kings Pointers had double-digit kills: Tyack (16), Hodges (16) and Flaherty (12). Fuschetto compiled a season-best 38 assists.
