KINGS POINT, N.Y. (April 14, 2019) – The USMMA women's track & field teams celebrated Senior Day on Sunday before the annual Coach Omeltchenko Invitational at Brooks Stadium.

Before action begun, the Mariners paid tribute to their three graduating seniors from the Class of 2019 – Monica Keeley (West Hartford, Conn.), Erica Lawlor (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.)

In the meet, the women head-to-head against three CUNYAC schools, and the Mariners won all three matchups. They edged CCNY, 76-73, defeated Lehman, 85-57, and cruised past Staten Island, 91-39.

The Mariners added two more ECAC qualifying performances on the day to bring their season total up to an impressive 12. Juniors Alexa Vandermeer (Grove Heights, Minn.) and Kaleigh D'Arcy (White Plains, N.Y.) both hit qualified marks in the long jump event, as Vandermeer came in second place with a leap of 4.97m, and D'Arcy placed fourth with a jump of 4.64m. Vandermeer has qualified in her second event of the year, as she also hit the mark in the 400m run earlier this year, while D'Arcy qualified for her fourth event (800m, 100 hurdles, high jump, long jump).

Merchant Marine had a total of five first-place finishes on the day. They are listed below.

  • 3000m Run – Freshman Brooke Jorstad (La Crosse, Wis.) - 11:36.17
  • Discus – Freshman Lauren Hunter (Tinley Park, Ill.) - 32.44m
  • Hammer – Junior Ally McFadyen (Saint James, N.Y.) - 34.52m
  • Javelin – Freshman Madison Reddick (Baker, Mont.) - 36.03m
