NEW YORK (Jan. 12, 2019) – The USMMA women's track & field team opened the indoor season on Saturday night at the Lions Invitational, hosted by The College of New Jersey at the Armory in New York City.
Highlighting the Mariners' performances at the event was the 4x800 meter relay team of freshmen Brooke Jorstad (La Crosse, Wis.) and Anna Grafton (Belmont, N.H.), senior Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.) and freshman Robin King (Raymond, Ohio) setting a new Academy Record with their third-place finish in 10:19.13. They bested the previous record, which was 17 years old – 10:22.2 set back in 2002.
Jorstad also had the Mariners' top individual finish of the meet, as she came in 10th place in the one-mile run with a time of 5:40.95.
In field action, junior Ally McFadyen (Saint James, N.Y.) came in 12th place in the weight throw after her toss of 10.47 meters.
Up next, the Mariners will travel to Selinsgrove, Pa., next Saturday, Jan. 19, to take part in former Landmark rival Susquehanna's Orange and Maroon Classic. Action is slated to get underway at 9:30 a.m. at the River Hawks' Garrett Center Field House.
