Miller Sets New 400 Meter Academy Record At Landmark Championships

SELINSGROVE, Pa. (Feb. 27, 2016) – The USMMA women's track & field team came in seventh place at the 2016 Landmark Conference Championship Meet, hosted by Susquehanna University on Saturday in Pennsylvania. Sophomore Alex Miller (Stevensville, Mich.) broke the Academy record in the 400 meter run with a time of 1:03.44.

Miller placed seventh in the field of 14 runners in the event. Her time trumped former Mariner Lorisabel Santos-DeJesus' mark of 1:04.23, which was set during the 2013-14 season.

The Mariners had one top-five finish for its relay squads and, individually, had three runners place in the top 10. The 4x400 meter relay squad of Miller, freshman Kelsey Ramirez (Stevensville, Mich.), sophomore Kaylee Kilbert (Canfield, Ohio) and freshman Monica Keeley (West Hartford, Conn.) placed fifth after crossing the finish line in 4:33.74.

Individually, Miller had the seventh place finish in the 400 meter, Ramirez came in eighth in the 800 meter run (2:29.52) and Keeley placed ninth in the one-mile (5:59.94).

The Merchant Marine indoor track & field season concluded with this meet on Saturday and the Mariners will resume action for the outdoor season in late March.
